Dharmesh Sheth: Tyler Adams medical scheduled for Leeds United exit in next 24 hours
Chelsea have met Tyler Adams’ £20million release clause at Leeds United, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports News journalist reported on Twitter on Thursday (10 August) that Chelsea have offered enough money to Leeds to trigger Adams’ transfer to Stamford Bridge just one year after he joined the Whites from RB Leipzig.
Sheth adds that “one source has told us” that the USA international, 24, will undergo a medical with the Premier League club in the next 24 hours.
Annoying
You can understand why Leeds had to insert a relegation release clause in Adams’ contract because of what happened the season before relegation at Elland Road.
If you’re at the wrong end of the table then you’re always going to have that problem, meaning that the better players in the squad are always at risk of leaving.
Unfortunately, Adams was one of the best players at Elland Road last season and maybe if he wasn’t injured for the final few months of the campaign, we would have stayed up.
Leaving Leeds for Chelsea is a strange one though.
He’s definitely not going to be a starter for them and there’s no European football either at Stamford Bridge this season for him to make the most of extra games.
It seems like an economic move for Chelsea, who in the short term could garner some extra attention from the USA and then sell Adams on for more than what his current £20million release clause is.
In other Leeds United news, one of Adams’ teammates has made it clear he wants to quit Elland Road.
