Dennis Cirkin transfer news at Leeds United as ‘Amazing’ Sunderland deal on cards

James Copley doesn’t expect Dennis Cirkin to sign for Leeds United in the upcoming transfer window and instead believes the defender will move to the Premier League next.

The Sunday Mirror [10 November, pg 69], linked the Whites with a move for the left back in January, Sunderland are said not to be interested in selling the 22-year-old.

Writing on X [11 November], Sunderland Echo journalist Copley rejected the possibility of Cirkin moving to Elland Road and would like to see the Black Cats tie the defender down to a long-term contract.

“There’s a lot being said about Dennis Cirkin and links to Leeds United. Personally can’t see it in January. His next move will be to the Premier League. Absolute baller.

“It would be an amazing bit of business to get him on a longer contract if possible. If it wasn’t for his injuries, he’d probably already be gone. He’s that good.”

Leeds United could do with Dennis Cirkin

Cirkin has gone from strength to strength since his move to Sunderland from Tottenham in 2021, especially proving his credentials this season.

The left-back has been a key player for Regis Le Bris this season, starting in every game for the Black Cats in the Championship as they sit at the top of the table.

Leeds also have hopes of getting back into the Premier League, and it would be surprising to see Sunderland sell one of their best players to a direct rival.

Daniel Farke has done well during his time in the Elland Road dugout, although the Peacocks seem to be missing a bit of quality in their bid for promotion, as was evident last season.

Injury issues have hit the German manager in the current campaign, and the Whites evidently lack squad depth in critical areas of the pitch.

At left-back, Junior Firpo is the go-to player for Farke, but the Dominican’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether he will put pen to paper on a new deal.

Leeds were able to pry Jayden Bogle away from Sheffield United, and the defender showed his quality in the 2-0 win over QPR on 9 November.

One shouldn’t put it past the Whites’ hierarchy to pull off a coup and get Cirkin from Sunderland in the coming months.
