Dejan Ljubicic was likened to David Beckham for his most recent performance amid ongoing links with a move to Leeds United.

While Leeds fans are clearly not fond of Beckham given his Manchester United links, they can respect the quality he possessed during his playing days.

And in Ljubicic, Leeds could sign a player who boasts similar abilities in terms of finding his mark with his right boot - whether the net or a teammate.

"Dejan Ljubicic was incredible though," The Guardian reporter Jacque Talbot posted on X [2 August] after FC Koln's 2-1 loss to Hamburg.

"Sort of like a mild Beckham regen with his right foot."

Dejan Ljubicic could be heading to Elland Road

Ljubicic played the full 90 minutes for Koln in their 2.Bundesliga opener, but Leeds fans will be hoping it is the last time he features for them.

Graeme Bailey reported via Leeds United News on 1 August that United intend to make a fresh approach for the central midfielder.

That is after the Whites had a £3.5million bid knocked back earlier in the summer [Nancy Froston, 25 July].

Splashing out a sum of around £5m on a player in the second tier of German football may sound a bit strange on the face of it.

However, Ljubicic ticks plenty of boxes and is clearly a very talented player - one who is too good to be playing in that division.

After this latest praise, many Leeds fans will be eager to see the club get a deal over the line for Ljubicic at the second time of asking.
