Dean Ashton: Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be Harry Kane replacement at Tottenham

Dean Ashton has suggested that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be the man to replace Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

England captain Kane shot to the top of the news stories on Monday morning [02/08/21] after several outlets reported that he had skipped Tottenham training amid uncertainty over his future, with a move to Manchester City a hot topic of discussion recently.

Speaking on talkSPORT [02/08/21] later in the morning, former West Ham and England striker Ashton believes Leeds forward Bamford may be on Nuno Espirito Santo’s summer shortlist if Kane departs north London.

He said: “Nuno might want something different. You maybe look at Bamford who’s of that ilk, someone that can lead the line and work incredibly hard, link the play.

“There will be options there and Nuno might want to go somewhere different with the way he wants to play that doesn’t involve Harry Kane.

“But the longer this goes on and the uglier it gets, it really doesn’t help Nuno at the start of his reign at Tottenham.”

Minor step

Tottenham may have reached a Champions League final in 2019, but the reality is that they’re not much further ahead than Leeds at this present time.

Yes, the London side have one of the finest stadium’s in European football, and could pay more in wages to Bamford, were he to make a move down south.

But Spurs only finished two places and three points above Leeds last season, and the two clubs appear to be heading in opposite directions.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites have been transformed into one of the most exciting clubs in the Premier League, and with Andrea Radrizzani as owner, appear to have grand designs on breaking into the Champions League spots in the coming years.

Spurs, meanwhile, look to be on a downward trajectory after an expensive gamble on Jose Mourinho paid off, and they endured a summer of turbulence in their search for his replacement before finally settling on Espirito Santo.

It remains to be seen whether Kane leaves and they look to Bamford as his replacement, but even if that is the case, the Whites man would be wise to snub a transfer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in serious competition to sign this attacker, £21.3million could get deal the done.
