Deal close: Leeds 23-year-old agrees potential loan-to-buy exit – report

Leeds United defender Conor Shaughnessy has agreed on a deal to join Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season, according to LeedsLive.

The news outlet claims that the 23-year-old is set to join the League One club on a temporary deal with the possible view to it becoming permanent in the summer transfer window.

Shaughnessy has spent the first half of the season on loan at League Two side Mansfield Town, where he has made 16 appearances in all competitions.

However it now seems as though the Irish centre-back is set for a move up a division to join Nigel Clough’s Burton.

LeedsLive reports that Burton tried to sign Shaughnessy in the summer before injuries at the Pirelli Stadium led to a change in their plans.

But now it seems as though Clough is finally going to land his man as he aims to seal a spot in the League One play-offs with Burton.

If Shaughnessy impresses then a permanent move to the Staffordshire club is on the cards and that could be good business for Leeds considering the 23-year-old does not have much of a future at Elland Road.

He’s made 15 senior appearances in his time as a Leeds player, but it does not seem as though the centre-back will get to add to that in the future.

In other Leeds United news, fans think that the club may have found a replacement for Samuel Saiz based on this latest transfer report.
