Deal close: Club confirms agreement in principle for player to join Leeds
Valencia have confirmed that striker Rodrigo is on the verge of joining Leeds United with an agreement in principle reached between the two clubs.
The La Liga club announced via their official Twitter account on Tuesday night that Moreno, 29, will complete a move to Elland Road pending a medical and “other formalities”.
Valencia add their thanks to Rodrigo for his service to the club over the last six seasons, in which he scored 59 goals in 220 appearances across all competitions and won the 2019 Copa del Rey.
Rodrigo is reportedly set to undergo his medical in Valencia on Wednesday at Clinica Eresa, which means that the player is yet to jet out to England to join up with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
It remains to be seen whether Rodrigo will even be able to train with Leeds once he does move to West Yorkshire due to people arriving from Spain having to quarantine for two weeks as the country is not on the UK’s travel corridor list.
Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta have reportedly flown to Spain to force through a deal for Rodrigo so they might have to self isolate for two weeks too.
With Rodrigo, it could be a bit of an issue because the new Premier League season kicks off in just over two weeks’ time.
While he might be able to train individually, Bielsa will surely want him to be well-versed in his tactics and totally up to his fitness standards before he plays him in the league.
Rodrigo had a knee injury at the end of last season so might not be 100 per cent just yet so it could be a while before the Spain international starts a game for the Whites.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this Arsenal midfielder on loan.
