Deal all but done: Leeds transfer requires FA ratification before completion – report

Leeds United have all but completed the signing of Italian goalkeeper Elia Caprile, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that the 18-year-old shot-stopper’s transfer from Chievo to Leeds is now “pending FA ratification” before the deal can be classed as complete.

It is understood that Caprile was in the stands at Elland Road on Saturday when the Whites lost their Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday and The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has also reported that the Italy Under-18 international has passed his medical with the Championship giants.

Leeds’ imminent addition of Caprile has caused a bit of a stir among some sections of fans on social media, who want to see signings made for the first-team and not new goalkeepers being added to Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s.

But why can’t the club also think about it’s future as well as the present?

Sure, there is a pressing need to sign a new striker to replace Eddie Nketiah while the Whites’ midfield could also do with a couple more new bodies being added to it. But just because Caprile is set to be signed does not mean that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta are not working towards that as well.

Is it so hard to believe that the club has different staff members, who have different roles, who deal with different types of transfers?

Caprile is clearly one for the future and as he is an Under-18 international for Italy, he definitely has a bit of potential.

Why not sign him if he’s cheap? He could be worth a fortune in the future.

Let’s hope so, anyway.
