De Bock finishes loan spell, should be bombed out of Leeds United by Marsch

Laurens De Bock’s loan spell at Zulte Waregem ended with the Leeds United left-back being axed from the Belgian side’s starting line-up.

De Bock, 29, wore the captain’s armband for most of Zulte’s season but his final match for them on Sunday [10 April] saw him dropped to the bench.

The Elland Road outcast did come off the bench at half-time but couldn’t help Zulte avoid falling to a 3-0 defeat to Charleroi and finishing the Belgian season in 16th – one place above the relegation zone.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for De Bock but the Belgian left-back’s contract with Leeds United expires at the end of June.

He’s now in a state of limbo.

His loan spell at Zulte is over while his contract at Leeds is basically up too as he cannot be registered in Jesse Marsch’s squad for the remaining Premier League fixtures this season.

But it’s a no-brainer of a decision for Marsch with regards to De Bock.

He’s got to bomb the Belgian out of Elland Road for a truly forgettable stint on the books in Yorkshire.

De Bock joined Leeds in January 2018 but has since played just seven times for the Yorkshire giants.

After Marcelo Bielsa came in, De Bock was loaned out firstly to Oostende before stints at Sunderland, ADO Den Haag and Zulte Waregem followed.

The ex-Club Brugge left-back was woeful in those seven appearances for Leeds. His performance against Derby was easily one of the most horrific we’ve seen by a Leeds player in recent memory.

De Bock was a ridiculously bad signing, perhaps the worst by Victor Orta.

And now he’s ended a loan spell at one of the worst teams in Belgium’s top-flight by being dropped to their bench.

Get rid, now.
