David Ornstein shares new Tyler Adams update after Leeds United saga
Leading Premier League sides have been alerted to the availability of Leeds United star midfielder Tyler Adams, after his move to Chelsea collapsed, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist reported on Twitter that Adams is close to returning from his injury, and is expected to return to action after the international break, as his £20million release clause continues to draw interest from a number of top Premier League clubs.
Adams’ move to Chelsea broke down despite the player travelling to London for a medical, as Chelsea have prioritised moves for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo in Adams’ position.
Leeds may be hopeful they can hold on, but interest could make it difficult
Ornstein referred to “leading Premier League clubs” when detailing the interest in Leeds’ American midfielder, with both Liverpool and Aston Villa having been reported as interested in bringing him to the club [Daily Mail, 12 August].
Liverpool should certainly be one to keep an eye on, having seemingly missed out on deals for Lavia and Caicedo after Chelsea made their moves, and as they are greatly lacking in midfield. Adams could be the Merseyside club’s answer as they look to plug a gap.
Leeds may be hopeful of hanging on to Adams if none of the other clubs suggested come in for him, and this would be a success for the Yorkshire side, keeping a player of real high quality in and around the team, as well as a much-needed leader in the dressing room.

The USMNT captain will slot straight into the midfield at Elland Road upon his return from injury should Leeds win the battle for his presence, after he has been missing through injury since March, and would fill a large gap in the squad after key players have already left.
