David Norris shares exciting Rodrigo De Paul to Leeds United transfer claim

Ex-Leeds United player David Norris claims Rodrigo De Paul’s potential move from Udinese to Elland Road could gain momentum in the coming weeks.

De Paul, 26, has been linked with a move to West Yorkshire since last summer while Il Milanista has recently reported the Whites are in the driving seat to sign the Argentina midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.

He’s had a superb season at Udinese this term, scoring nine goals and supplying 11 assists in 37 total appearances for the Serie A club.

Norris believes De Paul has exactly what it takes to shine for Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League.

“From what I hear and see he seems to have the qualities that Leeds want in their players, and there’s obviously a desire for him to want to come to Leeds and the fans want him here,” Norris told This is Futbol.

“He’s been linked before so I think that one will probably pick up speed the next few weeks and it’ll be interesting to see where that one goes.”

Exciting news

If Norris is right, then this is huge news for Leeds United fans because De Paul is just the kind of player we need in the summer.

Udinese sporting director Pierpaolo Marino called De Paul a “world-class” player [Sempre Inter] in 2019 and based on his figures this season, he isn’t wrong.

Stats by Wyscout show that De Paul ranks third in Europe’s top-five leagues for expected assists [12.77] and joint-fifth, alongside Bruno Fernandes, for key passes [35].

He also ranks eighth in Europe’s top leagues for one-v-one dribbles [248], showing that he can create something from absolutely nothing in the midfield.

Imagine how good Leeds would look with that kind of central midfielder in their side.

Bielsa’s midfield needs adding to to in the summer with a number of players not really impressing on a consistent basis there.

Tyler Roberts and Mateusz Klich have been good without being great. To put it simply, De Paul is in a totally different league to them.

Let’s hope Norris is right about this one picking up in the coming weeks because De Paul could be one of the signings of the year if we get him.
