Darko Gyabi reveals all after deadline day move from Leeds United to Hull City
Darko Gyabi arrived at Leeds United from Manchester City years ago with a big reputation but left with a whimper on deadline day.
When Leeds sold Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City, that same summer, Gyabi made the move from the Etihad to Elland Road.
The youngster arrived with much promise, but ultimately failed to settle and establish himself in the first team in West Yorkshire, with the midfielder even joining Plymouth on loan last season.
This time around, the midfielder’s Leeds exit is a permanent one, and Gyabi has revealed all about his deadline day move to Hull City.

Darko Gyabi ‘really happy’ with his decision to leave Leeds
The Elland Road faithful were furious with the 49ers after Gyabi’s move to Hull was the only deal United were involved in on the final day of the window.
There was little pushback, however, regarding the 21-year-old leaving, as it was clear he was not a part of Daniel Farke’s plans.
Speaking on ‘The 1904 Club – a Hull City podcast’ on 11 September 2025, Gyabi had this to say about leaving the Whites.
“To be fair, it was something that was happening in the background for a couple of weeks before that (deadline day). There were talks, nothing concrete, but then obviously everything happened on deadline day, so it feels like it was frantic, but truly it wasn’t as bad as what people thought.
“I think the decision that I have made to come here, I’m really happy, and I’m excited for the chapter ahead.”
Darko Gyabi deal further exposes 49ers failings in the market
With Leeds said to have PSR issues that capped their spending prematurely in the eyes of supporters, a consistent theme is occurring with the 49ers.
Their inability to get good deals when it comes to outgoings.
For reasons unknown, players like Illan Meslier remain on the books despite it being clear that they will not feature much this season.
Whilst Gyabi would likely not have fetched a massive fee, the fact that reports suggest he joined Hull for free is mind-boggling.
Although the Whites are said to have a hefty sell-on clause, this could easily backfire if Gyabi fails to perform at Hull, and there should be questions raised as to how United have not received a fee for their man this summer.
After initially joining Leeds for £5million, they could feasibly now not receive a fee for the player if he simply remains at Hull for the remainder of his career.
