Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi appears set to join Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan "imminently", according to Beren Cross.

The LeedsLive journalist reported on 1 July that the 20-year-old will head back to the south coast having already featured for Argyle on a loan deal from January onwards before injury cut it short [Instagram, 28 March].

Gyabi will therefore return to Home Park with Plymouth now under the management of Wayne Rooney after he succeeded Ian Foster, and an announcement is expected shortly.

After signing from Manchester City in 2022, Gyabi has made just five first-team appearances for the Whites, already managing double that amount between January and March of this year with Argyle.

Darko Gyabi loan transfer a consequence of Leeds United chaos

As the player who arrived at Elland Road as part of the deal to take the club's favourite son, Kalvin Phillips, to Manchester City, big things were expected of Gyabi right from the get-go.

However, despite valid arguments that the 20-year-old hasn't produced enough in his five appearances for the Whites, the circumstances surrounding the club during this time have been far from ideal [Plymouth Live, 10 January].

Darko Gyabi only featured twice for Leeds United under Daniel Farke last season.

Signed ahead of a season which saw United win just seven matches on their way to Premier League relegation, Gyabi has since been on the sidelines of a team pushing hard for a promotion return.

That's hardly the perfect environment in which to blood and develop young players, with so much pressure on every single match and result, at the bottom and top ends of the two respective divisions [Adam Pope, 27 June].

Therefore, moving to a club without the weight of expectation that comes with wearing the white shirt, Gyabi could well thrive in Plymouth's midfield, playing regularly and becoming the beating heart of an Argyle side who are an unknown quantity going into the new season.
