Darko Gyabi has surely played his last Leeds United game after Plymouth Argyle transfer news
Darko Gyabi has now surely played his last game for Leeds United after joining Plymouth Argyle in the January transfer window.
The Pilgrims announced on their official Twitter page on Thursday (11 January) that the 19-year-old midfielder will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Whites’ Championship rivals.
With his chances limited at Elland Road since signing from Manchester City in 2022 for £5million, it will take some top performances with Argyle to force his way into the reckoning under Daniel Farke next season.
There is no doubt that Leeds have so far seen very little return on the cash they paid the Citizens to sign Gyabi after the England U-20 international has made just five senior appearances for the club.
The midfielder has played just one minute of Championship football under Farke this season as well as a 45-minute appearance against Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup in August.
It was expected that the teenager would be handed an opportunity to go out on loan last summer, but the Whites boss decided to keep him at Elland Road.
That decision now looks to have potentially been the wrong one after he’s also only played five times for the club’s U-21s side this season.
His lack of opportunities in the first team is largely down to the form of Ethan Ampadu and Glen Kamara, while Archie Gray has featured numerous times in midfield and Ilia Gruev has filled in when called upon.

Having not been named in a single squad since the game against Sheffield Wednesday at the start of September, it’s no surprise that Gyabi has now joined Plymouth.
The midfielder will be hoping to earn more minutes at Home Park in the second half of the campaign as he looks to help Argyle finish as high up in the table as possible in their first season back in the Championship.
But even if he does impress on the South Coast, it could be unlikely his opportunities improve at Elland Road, particularly if Farke’s side achieve promotion to the Premier League.
That means there’s a very good chance he’s played his last game in a Whites shirt even if he proves himself in the Championship with the Pilgrims.
