Daniel Farke wants Modibo Sagnan as Leeds United ready transfer

Leeds United are clinging onto Premier League promotion for next season, but Daniel Farke is already planning for the summer transfer window.

Although the Whites have been a dominant side in the Championship throughout the season, a recent dip in form has seen them drop to third.

A trip to Middlesbrough on Tuesday could see everything change depending on the results of Burnley and Sheffield United, but there is plenty of pressure on Farke’s side to revive their old form.

Farke looking at new defender for Leeds

The league which Leeds end up in next season could well dictate much of their summer transfer business with a different level of targets depending on where they are competing.

However, Farke is already looking ahead to the summer window and is identifying targets that may be appropriate additions for his Leeds side.

Whether or not Leeds are promoted this season, they will have a massive task on their hands to either stay up or push for a place up to the Premier League again.

With that in mind, it’s no wonder that those at Elland Road are keen to have a plan in place ready for the end of the campaign that can boost Leeds ahead for the new season.

One of the names on the list of targets is Modibo Sagnan, according to Foot Mercato (8 April).

The French news outlet has reported that the centre-back, who is currently playing at Montpellier, is of “close interest” to Leeds United ahead of the summer.

The 25-year-old is under contract in France until 2028, but with his side sitting at the bottom of Ligue 1, and currently without a manager, a move away could be an attractive prospect at the end of the term.

Farke needs defensive reinforcement at Leeds United

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, there are several areas that the manager needs to look at upgrading, but this fits the bill for one of them.

Max Wober is expected to leave Elland Road in the summer while Pascal Struijk has also been linked with a move away which would leave the Whites exceptionally short of left-sided options.

Given that Montpellier look well on their way to relegation, sitting 12 points away, having a look at their players who do have quality isn’t a bad idea.

However, this may be a target that should stay on the list for life in the second tier as it could be a risk a bit too big to take Sagnan to the Premier League.

It is good that those upstairs at Elland Road are focused on looking ahead and will seemingly be prepared for any outcome this summer, but Farke needs to keep his eyes firmly on the challenge straight ahead.

With just two points separating them from the top of the table, the race for automatic promotion is far from over.
