Daniel Farke shares new Leeds United transfer update ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has confirmed that the Whites will not benefit from any new signings when they face Sheffield Wednesday.
The Whites make the trip to Hillsborough to face Danny Rohl’s Owls on Friday (23 August) as they look to register their first win of the Championship season having drawn their opening two matches.
While Leeds have been hit by the loss of Georginio Rutter after his move to Brighton was confirmed, Farke insists that he will have to work with the same group of players against Wednesday on Friday.
Speaking in his press conference on Wednesday (21 August) he said: “I know that we will need to play the next game also without new signings.
“Then hopefully in the next week, we can talk about some business. Right now we have a maximum of one, perhaps two games where we don’t have the support of new signings and yes we still have a proper group in order to be ready to win points in the next two games.”
Are Leeds United close to any new signings ahead of transfer deadline day?
This won’t have been news welcomed by Leeds United supporters as it is clear that the Whites need some more signings sooner rather than later if they want to remain competitive in the race for automatic promotion.
By no means is the current group of players at Farke’s disposal miles off of the standard required to challenge at the top of the table, but the lack of depth in the Whites’ ranks is clear for anyone to see.
There is still time for Leeds to get their incoming business done before the transfer window slams shut, but they have already dropped points compared to their promotion rivals and they cannot afford to do the same against Wednesday.
Hopefully, things will begin to pick up in the final weeks of the window and the Whites boss will finally get the additions to his squad that he has been looking for since that playoff final defeat at the hands of Southampton at Wembley.
