Daniel Farke Max Wober decision could backfire on Leeds United
Leeds United have already undergone a vast amount of changes since the summer transfer window opened.
This was no doubt needed especially after getting so close to regaining their Premier League status last season.
Daniel Farke’s men were one of the strongest teams and if it wasn’t for the freakishly good form of Ipswich Town, the team would have probably been able to keep Archie Gray at the club and perhaps even gained Premier League promotion.
Evidently this wasn’t meant to be as he was sold on for the eye-watering fee of £40million to Tottenham.
One man who has returned to the club is Max Wober. The Austria international spent the 2023/24 season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach and many fans thought that would be the last they’d see of the defender in a Leeds shirt.
It now seems that this isn’t the case and that the Whites could now be keeping the defender [Beren Cross, 19 July] for the next season.
Max Wober set to stay at Leeds United
On paper, this seems like a solid coup from Farke but in reality, it could cause him more problems than what Wober is worth.
The 26-year-old had a fairly solid term in the Bundesliga and did enough for Monchengladbach to want to acquire his services permanently.
However, the fee Leeds wanted was too high and a deal never came to fruition.
The £12.6million that Leeds had been reported to want [BILD, 17 June] would have no doubt helped reinforce the squad as a whole and perhaps even help them reinforce in a more needed area such as right-back.
The centre of Farke’s defence definitely needed at least one arrival following the exit of Diego Llorente but it doesn’t feel like Wober is the solution.
Especially if the Whites don’t get promoted as he’s unlikely to stay around for a second season in the Championship.
He could end up surprising everyone and become an integral part of Farke’s team for the upcoming season, but for now, keeping Wober feels like too much of a gamble, and will no doubt have to win over fans this season.
In other Leeds news, the Whites could look at bringing in Oliver Skipp after Glen Kamara’s exit.
