Daniel Farke confirms Leeds transfer desire as update shared on Sebastiaan Bornauw injury

Daniel Farke has confirmed he is hoping to sign a new right-back for Leeds United before the winter transfer window closes.

Leeds are working on a number of transfers – both in terms of incomings and outgoings – before the window closes for business on 2 February.

Union Berlin centre-back Danilho Doehki has emerged as a target for Leeds, but Farke is also eager to strengthen on the right-hand side of defence.

The German shared a fresh update after Leeds’ 3-1 win over Derby in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, as well as the latest on some injury issues.

Daniel Farke speaks on transfers and injuries after Leeds win vs Derby

Sunday’s comeback win was not all good news as Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw sustained an injury that forced him off at half-time.

Wilfried Gnonto was also seen limping but lasted 86 minutes before being replaced, with Farke sharing an update on Bornauw at full-time.

“I think it’s his hip flexor or adductor,” Farke told reporters. “It’s not a major thing. We hope it’s not a thing he’s out for weeks with.”

Farke also confirmed Gabriel Gudmundsson and Joe Rodon were rested for precautionary reasons against Derby, but did add he is looking to sign a right-back this month.

The potential absence of Bornauw, combined with the recent other layoffs at the back, certain suggest another centre-back could come in handy.

Who impressed and who let down in Leeds’ win at Pride Park?

Leeds were ultimately deserved winners against Championship side Derby, even if they did go behind in the East Midlands.

Gnonto levelled up 10 minutes into the second half before Ao Tanaka put Leeds in front on the hour, with James Justin’s 93rd-minute goal sealing progression to round four.

Tanaka was Leeds’ best player on the day and highlighted why he needs to be picked by Farke, while Ethan Ampadu also caught the eye.

On the other end of the spectrum, Bornauw was poor before being substituted off with his injury at the halfway point.

Jack Harrison was the worst Leeds performer on the day, though, with 10 of his crosses unsuccessful.

All that matters is that Leeds are now in the hat for the fourth-round draw on Monday evening.
