Daniel Farke big fan of Josh Sargent as Leeds United and Norwich City transfer news emerges

Leeds United are already looking to strengthen their squad with Daniel Farke reportedly interested in reuniting with Norwich City striker Josh Sargent.

According to a post on X from Darren Witcoop [19 May], Farke remains a “big fan” of the American, who is set to depart Norwich this summer following their play-off semi-final destruction by Leeds in midweek.

Sargent has led the scoring charts for the Canaries this term, with 16 goals in 28 Championship matches, alongside two assists as he attracts Premier League interest.

The Sunday Mirror also reported on 19 May that Farke would be keen to add Sargent to the ranks at Elland Road should Leeds overcome Southampton in next weekend’s play-off final.

Josh Sargent – the latest recruit to the Leeds United frontline?

In the wake of an excellent individual season for the 24-year-old, Sargent is the target of a number of clubs who believe he can once again make the step up.

It comes as little surprise that Farke remains interested by what the forward can bring to his team in the Premier League – he signed Sargent from Werder Bremen for a fee of around £8million and hailed him as a “fantastic” player.

Whilst he has hit double figures in each of the past two Championship seasons since sticking around following Norwich’s last relegation in 2022, Sargent has often struggled at top-flight level.

He has failed to score more than five goals in a top-division season during his career – both with Norwich and Werder in the Bundesliga – but has an excellent positional sense and work ethic which prove very beneficial to the team dynamic.

As for his goals, Leeds fans only to have to remember Patrick Bamford’s 2020-21 season for how a player can eventually get their eye in at Premier League level.

And it could well be Bamford that Sargent replaces as Farke rebuilds his side this summer.

In other Leeds news, the club could be set for some “positive publicity”.
