Crysencio Summerville exit timeline emerges at Leeds United after new approach
Fabrizio Romano believes Brighton have a three-week window to find an agreement with Leeds over Crysencio Summerville or risk missing out on a deal while speaking on The Debrief podcast.
The reliable journalist appeared on the podcast (18 June) and spoke about the Seagulls’ move for the Dutch winger, after he reported that they had made an approach to open talks with the Whites.
Romano shared that a deal is expected to cost up to £40million, but that “big clubs” could come calling which leaves Brighton with a short window to push ahead of their rivals for his signature.
“I think what you say is exactly the correct fee,” he said. “We are around £35-40m I think at the end of the story for Summerville.
“Also it’s going to be important with the payment terms. How many years to pay the fee and all these kinds of details will be important in these negotiations.
“But yes, I understand they hope to get a deal done for something around £40m. That could be the price and I think the next days will be important to see how these contacts go because I think the timing on this deal will be really important.
“If Brighton will not be able to reach an agreement in the next two or three weeks, then maybe these big clubs will appear and that could make it complicated also to convince the player.”
Leeds United will hope for a bidding war for Crysencio Summerville
The club are expecting to lose Summerville this summer [Phil Hay, 27 May] after failing to earn promotion back to the Premier League, but they know he is their biggest asset too.
Liverpool and Chelsea are said to hold an interest in the 22-year-old winger, who has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road and scored 22 goals last season.
So while Brighton have made the first move to take him to the top flight, Leeds will be hoping that negotiations drag on for long enough that those two clubs join the race properly and drive the price up too.
The more money the club can demand for Summerville the better, and while he isn’t pushing for a move away there is no rush for a deal to go through either.
Daniel Farke will likely be planning for life without him, and if he’s still here when the season starts then it’s a positive for the club.
