Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell on a free transfer.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed his fitness record ahead of a potential move to West Yorkshire this summer.

The 35-year-old will be leaving the Hammers as his contract runs out, making him available for free.

Cresswell to clear medical despite injuries this season

Despite his injuries this season, the left-back is expected to pass his pre-transfer medical if he is to sign for Leeds, according to Dr Brar.

He's also featured on just 18 occasions in the Premier League this past season.

This comes after Alan Nixon reported, via his Patreon account (25 May), that the Whites are keen on signing the Englishman this summer.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about Cresswell: "While he has faced injury setbacks this season, none of them were major.

"So, I wouldn’t expect that to cause any issues with his medical.

"He may be in his mid-30s but still played half of the Premier League games this season so it should be a formality."

Leeds United must avoid signing Cresswell

Replacing Junior Firpo with Cresswell is not exactly the best decision Leeds can make this summer.

The West Ham defender is way past his best and his being available on a free transfer should not mean that the Whites sign him.

He is a liability going forward and does not have the same kind of pace he did, which would make it difficult for Daniel Farke to employ a high line.

Instead, the Elland Road outfit should look across the continent and see if they can sign someone in their mid-20s for a discounted fee who’s got a high ceiling.

Farke’s side requires a left-back who fits his high-intensity, possession-based system.

The ideal full-back for him would be athletic, adept at overlapping runs, and proficient in delivering precise crosses to support attacking play.

Defensively, he must be solid in one-on-one situations and quick to recover, aligning with the German's pressing style.
