Connor Roberts text emerges ahead of Deadline Day move to Leeds United
Connor Roberts sent a text to Ethan Ampadu on deadline day of the January transfer window to let him know that his move to Leeds United was on, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reported on 3 February that, with Roberts joining the Welsh contingent of Ampadu, Daniel James and Joe Rodon at Elland Road, there is a clear plan afoot.
Hay shared that, while there isn’t much to the moves beyond the fact plenty of Welsh internationals are well-suited to the Championship, Daniel Farke is forming a core group of personalities in the dressing room.
Roberts joins the group at Elland Road
A deadline-day move for the Burnley left-back may well have been inspired by his relationship with Ampadu, James and Rodon, with the spirit and personalities in the dressing room often a difference-maker in the latter stages of the season.
Particularly in teams pushing for promotion via the playoffs, having a tight-knit group at the core of your squad can be vital when the games start to become difficult and the pressure starts to pile on – which has been known the affect Leeds more than most.
According to Hay, Roberts would be more than happy to remain at the club beyond his loan spell, having hinted at the move during an interview after he arrived at Elland Road on 1 February.

A similar move was mooted for another Wales international Neco Williams, who set tongues wagging when he replied to one of Ampadu’s Instagram posts amid links with a possible switch to join his international teammate at Leeds.
That wasn’t to be, but the Whites can be happy with what they have now.
