Cody Drameh open to Elland Road stay despite Luton interest, Leeds United provide assurances

Cody Drameh is open to staying at Leeds United despite securing promotion to the Premier League with Luton Town, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a highly successful loan spell at Kenilworth Road since moving in January, with Fabrizio Romano reporting (29 May) that the recently-promoted side will make “every effort” to sign the full-back this summer.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday (30 May), Donnohue shared that the Whites have provided assurances to Drameh if he returned to Elland Road next season.

“Cody Drameh open to staying at Leeds despite securing promotion with loan club Luton, who remain interested in a permanent transfer,” he wrote.

“Circumstances beyond his control meant he had to go out on loan again, while Leeds United have since provided assurances.”

Great news

Drameh faces an extremely tough decision this summer after the promotion of Luton Town and the subsequent relegation of the Whites.

The right-back has risen to every challenge thrown in front of him over the last two years, and it now looks even more ridiculous that he never managed to break into the first team during the opening months of the season.

Luke Ayling has looked well past his best this term, while Rasmus Kristensen has struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League following his transfer from RB Salzburg.

The likes of Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell look like the players who could be the spine for the Whites in the Championship next season after the imminent-looking sales of Willy Gnonto, Jack Harrison and Tyler Adams.

It is pleasing to see that the Luton loanee is open to staying at Elland Road, but the lure of Premier League football could end up being too strong to ignore.

In other Leeds news, the club are expecting a relegation release clause for one player to be triggered this summer.
