Club to seek new deal for in-demand Leeds loanee, one big stumbling block to overcome – YEP

Aberdeen could seek a new loan deal for Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson with his initial stay at Pittodrie set to end, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Edmondson, 19, joined the Scottish Premiership club on a half-season loan in the summer but has struggled to start regularly for the Dons, with just three starts to his name in the league.

The YEP reports that Aberdeen may look into extending the striker’s loan but the teenager’s lack of game-time north of the border could be a “stumbling block”.

It is understood that other clubs are also keen on Edmondson, whose contract at Elland Road expires in the summer.

Mixed spell at Aberdeen

Edmondson has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Aberdeen this season but only started three times. But, the Leeds loanee is lucky to even play that much.

In August, the teenager suffered an ankle injury that should have kept him on the sidelines for four months [BBC Sport]. However, he was back on the pitch for Derek McInnes’ side within a matter of weeks.

Edmondson started games against Hamilton, Celtic and Rangers, with him scoring his two only goals for Aberdeen in a 4-2 victory over Hamilton.

If Edmondson was to stay at Aberdeen for the second half of the season then you’d imagine he would play more than he has done so far.

However, Leeds cannot take that risk. They need to know what the youngster is made of now so they can make a decision on his contract situation.

Edmondson has played just two times for Leeds’ first-team and only one of those appearances came under Marcelo Bielsa’s charge.

Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt are Edmondson’s competition at Thorp Arch now so if he returns and signs a new contract, he’ll have a lot of work to do to add to his paltry senior appearances for the Whites.

In other Leeds United news, Kaveh Solhekol has shared a major update on Bielsa’s transfer budget for this month.
