Marseille officials are “amazed” by claims that Leeds United are set to sign left-back Jordan Amavi from them this month, according to Fabrice Lamperti.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, the La Provence journalist reported that “Amavi is far from being close to Leeds for a transfer before Monday”.

Foot01 had reported that Leeds were interested in the 26-year-old while new claims by French TV station Canal+ had suggested that the ex-Aston Villa player was on his way to Elland Road.

However, that no longer appears to be the case with Lamperti reporting that Marseille are totally unaware of anything in relation to Amavi moving to Yorkshire.

Leeds aren’t signing anyone this month

How many times does it need to be said? Leeds are not going to sign any new senior players before the January transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

Marcelo Bielsa has already confirmed, as quoted by LeedsLive, that there are no plans to sign anyone new.

He said: “I’m happy with the squad we have, I’m comfortable with it and I feel we can finish the season with these players.”

Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol has also reported that Leeds “spent their transfer budget in the summer window“.

Bielsa and Victor Orta spent around £100million on new signings after winning promotion so it’s no surprise there’s nothing left in the budget to attract arrivals this month.

We need to forget about signing anyone unless it’s an addition to the Under-23s but even at this stage of the window, that seems unlikely.

Leeds should be in the market for a new left-back in the summer and Amavi could be a good fit considering he has experience in English football and is a regular at a top European league with Marseille.

But let’s forget about him for now and anyone else we see linked between now and the end of the month.

In other Leeds United news, fans have let rip of this player and want him sold after what happened versus Newcastle.
