Club Brugge want 'jackpot' deal with Leeds United for Charles De Ketelaere

Leeds United will have to pay a “jackpot” figure to sign Club Brugge forward Charles De Ketelaere this summer, according to Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian newspaper reported on their website on 23 June that De Ketelaere, 21, is “going wild in the transfer market this summer” with Leicester, Atalanta and AC Milan also keen on signing him.

It is understood that De Ketelaere is unlikely to be interested in a move to Leeds because he’s already signalled that he’s not keen on a move to a bottom-half Premier League team.

However, if Leeds do move to sign the Belgium international, they’ll have to pay at least £25.7million for him, which is a “jackpot” figure for Brugge.

Nieuwsblad adds that if Leeds cannot sign De Ketelaere to replace Raphinha, they’ll also consider PSV and Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo.

Move on

If De Ketelaere isn’t interested in joining a Premier League club that’s top regularly in the top half then we might as well look elsewhere because there’s no way we convince him to change that stance.

Leeds just about avoided relegation to the Championship last season so trying to prove to players that we’re worth joining will be a tough ask.

Leeds will want to include stuff like relegation wage drops and players will want release clauses due to the threat of being relegated from the Premier League.

And not many players will be willing to join a club that could be relegated, especially as recent evidence suggests we could be in trouble again next term unless Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips are suitably replaced.

Raphinha pretty much kept us up last season. We definitely would have been relegated without him, anyway.

As it looks as though he’s on his way out this summer, we’ll have a lot to do to show to signings that we can avoid relegation again.

Maybe we’ll need to look around and sign one or two more players before potential arrivals are convinced that Elland Road is a safe play to be for a Premier League footballer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled a mega-money bid for a player as his stance on his future is revealed.
