Clinic booked: Leeds want medical done for major signing within hours – reliable journo

Leeds United have booked a clinic for Valencia striker Rodrigo to undergo a medical before joining them in a £27million deal, according to Spanish journalist Hector Gomez.

The Tribuna Deportiva and Golsmedia Sports reporter wrote on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night that Leeds want Rodrigo, 29, to complete a medical “in the next few hours in Valencia”.

Gomez added that the negotiations are “well advanced” as Leeds close in on a major addition to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Rodrigo would be a huge addition to the Leeds team.

Just a couple years ago, the Yorkshire club was floundering in the Championship with Paul Heckingbottom as manger and Pierre-Michel Lasogga playing up front.

Now, Leeds are close to signing a Brazilian-born Spain international from one of the biggest clubs in Spain for a club-record fee of around £27million.

Wow.

In five years at Valencia, Rodrigo has made 220 appearances in all competitions and been directly involved in 100 goals – scoring 59 of them.

Patrick Bamford struggled to impress Leeds fans with his goalscoring record last season but supporters were constantly reminded that Marcelo Bielsa’s system relies on a striker to be heavily involved in link-up play rather than sticking the ball in the back of the net himself.

Rodrigo seems to fall under the same type of striker at Valencia.

He’s not prolific in front of goal but whenever he plays, he’s involved in goals somehow on a basis of a goal contribution in almost every other game.

In other Leeds United news, this midfielder could reunite with an ex-Leeds player in Spain.
