Chelsea are preparing a move for Leeds United target Dario Essugo ahead of the January transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.

According to the The Sun journalist's Patreon [22 December], Chelsea are prepared to act fast to secure the midfield machine's signature with the Whites aiming to submit a loan offer with a purchase option.

Daniel Farke is eager to bolster his side in the upcoming transfer window, and are keen to bring Essugo to Elland Road, who is expected to cost in the region of £6 million but may be facing a losing battle.

Leeds United could lose Dario Essugo to Chelsea

Unfortunately for Leeds supporters, should Chelsea formalise their interest in Essugo, the West Yorkshire outfit will be powerless to stop him making the switch to West London.

While his game time would be limited among the plethora of options in central midfield at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could blow the opposition out of the water, with Sporting CP more inclined to accept a permanent sale rather than the Whites' loan bid.

However, losing out on Essugo would hardly be the end of the world for Leeds, and his potential acquisition should be treated as a luxury rather than a necessity.

Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have forged a formidable partnership in central midfield for the Whites, and with Ethan Amapdu returning to the first-team fold, options are plenty in West Yorkshire.

Although free agent signing Josuha Guilavogui may not extend his stay beyond the current campaign, should Leeds secure their long-awaited Premier League return, Farke will be better positioned to convince his desired targets to move to Elland Road.

Therefore, the Whites should not feel disheartened if Essugo rejects Leeds for Chelsea - there will be plenty of more desirable options to choose from at the end of the season.
