Cheikhou Kouyate passes medical for new Leeds United transfer
Cheikhou Kouyate has passed a medical with Leeds United but is waiting for them to make the next move, according to Graeme Bailey.
The TBR Football journalist reported on X [14 October] that the Whites are still considering other options which has created a waiting game for Kouyate, who looks close to signing as a free agent.
Leeds look to have stalled on the deal as they assess other options, despite Kouyate being told he would sign his contract over the weekend.
Leeds United stall on Cheikhou Kouyate, medical passed
Leeds United are flexing their control over the situation, with Daniel Farke likely not wanting to rush into a new transfer for the sake of it.
Kouyate remains in search of a club and has to go along with the waiting game at least while there are no other viable options on the table.
The former West Ham and Nottingham Forest midfielder knows he would play regularly at a club under pressure to deliver promotion, which would be an excellent challenge for a seasoned international.
While swirling in a midfield injury crisis, Farke and his recruitment staff are carefully analysing the options outside of the transfer market before pushing the button on the Kouyate deal.
Even if the deal is eventually completed, it is good to know that there has been no rush to panic and sign the first potential option that pops up, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev out long-term.
With the formalities seemingly in place, this is one to watch in the coming days.
