Charlie Cresswell to undergo Toulouse medical next week amid imminent Leeds United exit

Charlie Cresswell is set to undergo a medical with Toulouse next week ahead of a permanent Leeds United exit, according to Adam Pope.

Writing on his personal X account (29 June), the BBC Sport journalist reports that the two clubs have agreed a £3.8million deal for the England Under-21 international.

A deal is expected to go through after the medical next week, with Cresswell allowed to move on after failing to make an impact at Elland Road under Daniel Farke last season.

Leeds United happy to let Charlie Cresswell leave Elland Road

Last summer it seemed as though the future of Leeds had Cresswell at the forefront of it after handing him a new contract and the number five shirt.

However, with Farke preferring to use Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Liam Cooper over the course of the season in central defence there was very little chance for him to make any sort of impact or impression.

A January exit was culled because Farke wanted to keep the squad together with Struijk injured, but it now makes complete sense for him to move on this summer.

Cresswell wants to play football regularly and Farke clearly doesn’t trust him, so bringing in nearly £4million for an academy player who isn’t in the club’s plans is good business.

In an ideal world the club will reinvest that cash to strengthen the squad ahead of what is going to be a difficult season, but for now everyone will have to wait and see.
