Charlie Cresswell set to leave Leeds United with multi-million transfer close

Toulouse are closing in on a £3.8million deal for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon [29 June] that the Ligue 1 club want to tie up the move as quickly as possible, with Leeds making the defender available on a permanent transfer.

It is understood that both parties are set to agree on the price tag for Cresswell, who struggled to make an impact under Daniel Farke at Elland Road.

Leeds United set to lose Charlie Cresswell in new transfer

While the England Under-21s talent has come through the club’s academy at Thorp Arch, he does not look likely to stake a claim for a starting spot anytime soon.

Cresswell seemed to have fallen out with Farke due to his limited game time, which certainly came as a surprise to most following his successful loan spell with Millwall during the 2022/23 season.

Since returning to Elland Road, however, the central defender has only made seven senior appearances and was the subject of January transfer interest from Italy in the last window.

With Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu preferred as the centre-back partnership, even with Pascal Struijk injured, the 21-year-old never seemed to be anywhere near the starting XI.

Farke seemed to have more confidence in 32-year-old Liam Cooper, despite him only having eight Championship starts to his name.

Of course, with the Whites now stuck in the Championship for another season, they will be required to create funds to pay off unpaid transfer fees, and Cresswell looks to be an early sacrifice.

Although Red Bull’s recent investment is likely to have lessened any worries about PSR at Elland Road, some of the bigger names at the club are still being linked with moves away due to their performances this season.

Cresswell, on the other hand, has not been given much of an opportunity despite his known talent on the pitch, and Toulouse are set to benefit for just £3.8million this summer.
