Charlie Cresswell jets out of UK to sign deal with Toulouse as permanent Leeds United exit imminent
Charlie Cresswell is already in France ahead of signing a deal with Toulouse to leave Leeds United permanently, according to Beren Cross.
Writing on his personal X account (30 June), the Leeds-Live journalist reports the central defender was a the Stadium de Toulouse on Saturday (29 June) ahead of sealing a £3.8million move to Ligue 1.
An announcement for the deal is expected “imminently”, with the 21-year-old having already undergone a medical ahead of his Elland Road exit.
Leeds United lose sensational academy talent in Charlie Cresswell
The Leeds squad is going to take a battering this summer with several big exits expected after failing to earn promotion back to the Premier League.
Fans will have suspected that could open the door to some fringe players from the 2023/24 season earning an opportunity to make a place in the team their own, but that won’t be the case for Cresswell under Daniel Farke.
The young academy graduate was handed a new deal and the number five shirt last summer but found himself behind Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, Ethan Ampadu and Liam Cooper in his position as the season progressed.
It’s clear that the manager didn’t trust or rate Cresswell to be part of his squad and system, and if that is the case then an exit is the only possible outcome from this situation.
Fans will be gutted to see a top academy prospect moved on, but if he isn’t going to play at Elland Road then he deserves to play elsewhere and this deal is a win-win for everyone.
