Charlie Cresswell exit update emerges at Leeds United after Toulouse transfer collapse
Other teams are expected to test the water with Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell following his collapsed exit, according to Leeds Live.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (1 July) that a change of heart from the England youth international was what caused the plug to be pulled on his £4million summer move to Toulouse.
Leeds planned to announce the defender’s departure imminently after Cresswell had visited France, however, he is now expected to return to Yorkshire to begin pre-season with the rest of his teammates.
Despite Toulouse’s deal falling through, other interested parties are still expected to attempt to lure the 21-year-old away from Elland Road this summer.
Will Leeds United sell Charlie Cresswell as Elland Road exit collapses?
It has been clear for some time now that Cresswell is just not Daniel Farke’s cup of tea. Most expected Leeds’ relegation last year to offer the youngster an opportunity, but he barely featured in the Championship last term.
The Leeds United boss tended to prefer a combination of Pascal Struijk, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon at the heart of defence and when they were not available Liam Cooper was often the next cab off of the rank.
With Rodon’s return now looking likely as part of the deal which will see Archie Gray head to Spurs [David Ornstein, 1 July], Cresswell’s situation is unlikely to change next term and it would be best for everyone involved if he could find a new club.

Toulouse had seemed like the perfect fit and a move must have at least been close if the defender made the decision to jet out to France, but for whatever reason he obviously doesn’t feel like it is the right fit for him at this time.
Hopefully, another buyer will come forward sooner rather than later so Cresswell and the Whites can have some sort of clarity over what the future holds. He cannot spend another season just rooted to the bench.
