Charlie Cresswell exit to be done in 48 hours as Leeds United negotiations revived

Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell could seal his departure within 48 hours as negotiations with Toulouse get back on track, according to Adam Pope.

BBC journalist Pope shared on X [5 July] that Cresswell is indeed now set to leave Elland Road as soon as this weekend, with a move to the French outfit now back on.

An initial breakdown in personal terms appeared to chalk the transfer off, but the deal has now been “revived” and the 21-year-old should get his move.

Pope posted on Friday morning: “I understand Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell’s move to Toulouse has been revived.

“Negotiations restarted to push the deal over the line in the next 48 hours after it broke down over personal terms earlier this week. Championship interest in the centre back too.”

Charlie Cresswell’s Leeds United chapter about to end

This is a deal that is best for all parties, considering Cresswell has not really featured as part of Daniel Farke’s plans since the German took the reins in West Yorkshire.

The 6’3” centre-half started just once for Leeds last season amongst five Championship games, and a new start in France could be just the reboot his still-early career desperately needs.

Having risen through the academy ranks at Thorp Arch, leaving the club for good will be emotional for Cresswell but something for which he’ll have been preparing for a long time, particularly after it was confirmed Farke would remain in post.

The England U21s international has shown his mettle whilst on loan at Millwall in 2022-23, even displaying an eye for goal in a side which agonisingly missed out on the play-offs that season – which makes the Championship interest of very little surprise.

Toulouse are a club on the up in France, having finished 11th in Ligue 1 last campaign – improving on their 13th-place finish of the previous season which was their first since winning the Ligue 2 title in 2022.

If this is the end for Cresswell, every Leeds supporter will wish him well for the future.
