Charlie Cresswell days away from Leeds United exit as multi-million update emerges

Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell is close to completing a permanent transfer to Toulouse, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

As reported by the news outlet online (6 July), the deal between the two clubs for the 21-year-old is believed to be worth £3.8million.

Cresswell’s move to France appeared to be off last week due to a change of heart.

However, the transfer is back on, and the England youth international’s departure is expected to be confirmed over the weekend or early next week.

This will be a nice little financial boost for the Whites.

While £3.8million isn’t exactly a groundbreaking figure, especially considering 18-year-old Archie Gray was sold for more or less ten times that amount, it is still a tidy bit of profit.

Cresswell progressed through the ranks at Thorp Arch, and the club can have few complaints about moving an academy graduate on for almost £4million.

The 21-year-old made just 25 starts in the Championship last season, and while this is a respectable amount, it was clear that he didn’t have a massive future under Daniel Farke.

With Joe Rodon having also made his stay with the club permanent, it would have been even more difficult for Cresswell to lock down a regular starting place.

Therefore, a transfer away from Elland Road is probably also useful for the player and his career progression.
