Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt future update shared amid Leeds United promotion chase

Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt are expected to consider their options if Leeds United gain promotion to the Premier League, according to LeedsLive.

Writing on their website (16 May), the news outlet report that the duo could be set for their final Elland Road appearances during the playoff semi-final clash with Norwich on Thursday (16 May).

Both youngsters have struggled for regular game time this season and should the team get promoted to the Premier League they are even less likely to play regularly, and could look for potential exit routes during the summer transfer window.

Leeds United won’t miss Charlie Cresswell or Joe Gelhardt

While it’s always nice to see young players come through and make it at your club, they have to be good enough to make an impact in the first-team.

Archie Gray has done it seamlessly, while the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto also played in the reserves before making the step up.

Cresswell looked destined for a bright future at Elland Road but is clearly not in Daniel Farke’s plans at the club and an exit looks inevitable for him no matter what division the club is in.

As for Gelhardt, he has made an impact in the Premier League before but the squad’s attacking options already see him down the pecking order and it’s expected that more additions will join too.

It’s in his best interests to go elsewhere and and play regularly rather than sitting on the bench at Leeds, but he will always be remembered for that goal against Norwich in the Premier League.

In other Leeds news, Farke has been tipped to axe Georginio Rutter in the playoff semi-final by Phil Hay.
