Leeds United may have to sell Charlie Cresswell amid Manchester United and Liverpool pursuit

Leeds United may be forced to cash in on Charlie Cresswell if they are relegated this season, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reports that Leeds are in a fight to keep hold of the highly-rated 19-year-old with Manchester United and Liverpool set to do battle to sign him.

Cresswell is reportedly happy to stay at Leeds but the young centre-back may be “one to go” if his boyhood club returns to the Championship in a bid to raise funds.

The Sun says Man United and Liverpool are “huge fans” of the England Under-21 international, who’s not expected to be fit enough to play for Leeds until February.

Keep hold of him

If Leeds are relegated, it wouldn’t make sense to sell players like Cresswell to raise funds.

As he’s a young player who’s only this season started to feature regularly in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad, he’s probably not earning a lot of money.

If we go down, it’ll be players like Diego Llorente and Robin Koch who may be looked at to move on as they’re bound to be on a lot of money.

Cresswell has a big future ahead of him and he could thrive in the Championship right now if he was loaned to a second-tier club.

If he wasn’t injured and Leeds hadn’t had as many injury issues as they’ve had this season, a loan deal this month would have probably been an option.

Cresswell’s good enough for the Championship and wouldn’t get a chance at teams like Man United or Liverpool so he’s better off staying here for now, especially if we’re relegated.

Paul Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News in September that Cresswell has been “fantastic” and “outstanding” since moving into the senior side at Elland Road.

But putting that relegation talk aside for a moment, it would be a shock if Cresswell wanted to join either Man United or Liverpool given the fact he’s a boyhood Leeds fan.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “fantastic” French midfielder in January with him set to quit his club.
