Celtic ‘bemused’ as Carter-Vickers exit stance emerges amid Leeds transfer news

Leeds United are in the market for reinforcements to their backline this summer.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is the latest defender to be linked with a move to Elland Road, with the Whites also reportedly interested in both Millwall’s Japhet Tanganga and Udinese’s Jaka Bijol.

Sunderland are also understood to be eyeing a move for Carter-Vickers, who failed to make a Premier League appearance during his time at Tottenham before joining Celtic permanently.

Carter-Vickers is happy in Scotland, Celtic yet to receive contact

Amid all the talk suggesting that Carter-Vickers could be in line for a return to England with either Leeds or Sunderland, Celtic’s stance on the American has been unclear.

However, it has now emerged that the Glasgow giants are yet to receive any contact about a possible deal for Carter-Vickers, according to the Daily Record (16 June).

The Celtic board are understood “to be somewhat bemused” about reports of a potential bidding war for their centre-back, with Brendan Rodgers unaware of any interest in Carter-Vickers.

Leeds should turn their attention elsewhere

With Celtic’s stance on Carter-Vickers’ future now abundantly clear, Daniel Farke and Co. should turn their attention towards other potential targets to reinforce their defence for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Farke is expected to be well-backed in the transfer market by the 49ers, but Leeds won’t want to get caught paying over the odds for any potential signings, as that could cause them PSR issues further down the line.

Carter-Vickers’ league experience

A move for Carter-Vickers would have been a relatively risky one, considering he is yet to get a taste of the Premier League, and now that it’s emerged that Celtic are extremely reluctant to sell, it would surely take a significant fee to force through a deal.

Therefore, Leeds should instead be ensuring they get a deal for Jaka Bijol over the line. It seems set to be a busy summer at Elland Road, and the Whites should be looking to move straight on to their next option after being met with this latest disappointment.
