Castellon want Hernandez deal wrapped up this week after Leeds United exit

Pablo Hernandez is keeping his options open after leaving Leeds United at the end of last season, according to Super Deporte.

The Spanish news outlet claims Castellon still wants to sign the 36-year-old midfielder, who is a shareholder of the third-tier club.

However, it is understood that Castellon do not want to wait around too long for Hernandez to make up his mind after initial talks cooled.

He’s too good for them

Castellon were relegated from the Spanish Segunda Division last season so they’ll be playing third-tier football next term.

Although Hernandez’s performance at Leeds started to show a decline in his final two years, we still feel as though he’s way too good to be playing at that level.

Even though he’s 36 and will celebrate his 37th birthday shortly before the conclusion of next season, Hernandez definitely still has plenty in the tank.

Marcelo Bielsa’s strict fitness methods kept the former Spain international in top condition and he played a massive role in helping us get back to the Premier League.

Hernandez played 175 times in total for Leeds and ever since we dropped out of the Premier League in 2014, he’s probably been the best player we’ve had.

As much as joining Castellon would have a fairy tale feel about it as they’re his hometown club, we just feel as though he could still play in the English Championship for someone or even play in La Liga.
