Carlton Palmer claims that Ezgjan Alioski will know that Leeds United are going to try and replace him in the summer transfer window.
Alioski, 29, will find himself out of contract next month amid strong speculation that he’s going to join Galatasaray on a free transfer.
According to Football Insider, the North Macedonia international has agreed a pre-contract to join Galatasaray.
Former Leeds player Palmer now claims that amid a number of left-backs being linked with moving to Elland Road in the summer, Alioski will know that the clock is ticking on his career at the Yorkshire club.
“Listen, it’s one of those, isn’t it? His contract’s up in the summer; Leeds have been linked with every full-back going, haven’t they? For him, he knows that they’re looking to bring a full-back in,” Palmer told FootballFanCast.
“He’s obviously thinking that he’s going as a free agent. It’s rumoured to be all sorted for him to go to Galatasaray, so if he’s going as a free agent and they haven’t got to pay a fee for him, he’s going to pick up a lot of money.”
No chance Alioski stays
Alioski has been a great servant for Leeds but we just really struggle to see how he can stay at Elland Road past the end of this season.
Although the ex-Lugano ace has had his moments in the Premier League with the Whites, there have been too many occasions where he’s simply looking out of his depth in the English top-flight.
It’s unfortunate because Alioski played a massive role in our transformation under Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship. But it is time to move on.
Wherever he goes, even if it’s Galatasaray, we’ll wish him the best.
He’s bound to do well because he’s been a favourite of Bielsa, earning 32 Premier League appearances this season and starting 25 top-flight fixtures.
In January, Bielsa even said that he wanted to see Alioski stay at the Yorkshire club, saying that if Alioski chooses to stay, Leeds will want him to.
That doesn’t seem to be the case now though.
Good luck, Gjanni. Wherever you go.
