Cameron Archer to Leeds United: PSR friendly transfer now on cards

Leeds United are working on a PSR-friendly deal to sign a new striker, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its website on 30 January that Southampton have rejected an initial loan approach from Elland Road for Cameron Archer.

A new striker has been named as a priority transfer for the Whites in the final days of the window, but they have struggled to find a deal that fits in with financial restrictions.

Talks could continue in LS11 as Daniel Farke and the 49ers run out of options as the window moves closer to its deadline on 3 February.

After missing out on promotion through the playoffs last season, there were always going to be issues with PSR after remaining in the second tier.

After selling the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, any issues surrounding finances appeared to go away.

They now seem to be back on the table as the Whites look to add to their squad with genuine quality before the 3 February deadline.

This could hamper the possibility of bringing Archer to Elland Road as a forward option continues to be eyed by the Championship leaders.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old knows where the back of the net is but has struggled to take the step up to the Premier League.

As a result, dropping a division could prove to be what he needs and exactly what the Whites need to help fire them to promotion this campaign.

It will be interesting now, with less than a week remaining in the window, if the Whites can find a solution to push a deal over the line for the Englishman.
