Cameron Archer decides on signing for Leeds amid Southampton exit news
Cameron Archer is “open” to making a move to Leeds United in the winter transfer window, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC Leeds journalist reported via his personal X account (30 January) that “early talks” have already taken place between the Whites and the Southampton striker.
However, the journalist added that he’s “unsure” if Ivan Juric wants to allow the Englishman to exit at the moment.
“Leeds United targeting Southampton striker Cameron Archer. A player they’ve admired for a long time,” he wrote.
“Archer understood to be open to a move. Early talks have taken place but at this stage no agreement & unsure if Saints are willing to let him go.”
Leeds United could do with a new number nine
Among their ranks at the moment, Leeds have three decent strikers in Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford.
While the latter of the three hasn’t been given all that much of a chance this season due to the number of injuries he’s suffered, it feels like there isn’t enough quality between the other two when in front of goal.
Which is why one of Leeds’ main teething problems this season has been figuring out which striker is the best choice to lead their line.
Joseph and Piroe are often interchanged with one another but things haven’t been exactly smooth sailing for either of them.

So, even though there are only four and a half days left of the transfer window, it feels like if Leeds could secure the services of someone such as Archer, who was bought by the Saints for £15million, then they’d almost guarantee themselves promotion.
A new, leading number nine would help form some unity among the team and allow clear game plans to be put in place from the get-go which is a much-needed asset for any team gunning for promotion.
