Brian Deane claims Ben White will want Leeds United return

Ex-Leeds United striker Brian Deane claims Ben White will want to rejoin the Yorkshire club in the summer transfer window.

White, 23, was in sensational form while on loan at Elland Road last season and has continued to impress in the Premier League since returning to Brighton.

According to The Sun, Brighton value the centre-back at £45million amid interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Roma.

While Deane believes White would be keen on playing for Leeds again, he doesn’t see Brighton allowing it to happen.

I’d be very surprised if they sold to a club Brighton would consider to be their rivals. Ben White has got a lot of people who admire him; I think he’d like to come back to Leeds,” Deane told Football Transfer Tavern.

“He did very well here. It’s an interesting one, but I’m not sure if I see that happening.”

We don’t need him

If there’s on area of the pitch that doesn’t need to be added to in the summer it’s the centre-back position.

Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk are all likely to be here next season while Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling can also play centre-back roles if needed.

White is an amazing centre-back – no Leeds fan needs to be told that – but we simply shouldn’t waste money on strengthening one of the strongest areas of our squad.

Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta should have other priorities in the summer.

Firstly, we need to add to the centre of the midfield and sign a left-back while another striker and potentially a back-up right-back wouldn’t go amiss.

Brighton have had a mixed season but are they ever going to get to the level Leeds can get to? We really doubt it.

However, you can’t blame them for not wanting to sell White to us and for wanting a big sum of money for the ball-playing centre-back, who’s definitely one of the best at what he does in England.
