Leeds United fans can expect to see plenty of action in the summer transfer window after Victor Orta spent January saving funds and eyeing up players to land ahead of next season.
Leeds have hit the ground running on their return to the Premier League but the rebuild job at Elland Road is still in progress as the Whites aim to establish themselves in the top-flight and continue heading back to the pedestal they once sat on in English football.
There are several positions that need strengthening in the summer but one area that needs no debate is the left-back slot, which needs a breath of fresh air blown into it ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Stuart Dallas has down well there while Ezgjan Alioski has struggled and neither of those are natural left-backs unlike reported transfer target Romain Perraud.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has recently reported that Leeds “will consider tabling a formal offer for” Brest left-back Perraud in the summer transfer window as Orta and Marcelo Bielsa aim to improve the squad.
And if Perraud’s recent quotes are anything to go by, he’ll be a perfect addition for Leeds’ Argentinean manager.
“I work with a lot of energy,” Perraud told French news outlet MadeInFoot.
“It can sometimes be a fault because I want to be hyperactive so much sometimes I get a little confused. When I was at Paris FC, I gave so much during the first 70 minutes I had no gas left to finish the game. But I like it.
“This system (at Brest), it doesn’t slow me down. The coach lets me play, attack, participate in the offensive side of the game. Of course, I have rules on the defensive aspect, but there isn’t too much of a handbrake.”
It’s no secret of what Bielsa demands from his Leeds United players.
If you’re not running at 110 per cent, training at 110 per cent and playing at 110 per cent, then you’re not cut out for the Yorkshire club under his leadership.
Perraud doesn’t sound as though he’s afraid of running himself into the ground for Brest, who are by no means a big club in France and sit 13th in Ligue 1.
Imagine what he’d do for a highly-acclaimed manager like Bielsa at a club like Leeds.
Perraud has made 26 Ligue 1 appearances for Brest this season, scoring three goals – one of which came against leaders Lille – and supplying five assists in the process.
According to stats by Wyscout, only four players have put more crosses into the box than Perraud in France’s top-flight this season. He also ranks 15th in Ligue 1 for progressive runs , showing that he’s certainly an attack-minded full-back.
It’s also worth noting that Perraud is only 23 so he represents someone who could have resale value in the future.
He’s definitely someone who’s worth keeping an eye on this summer as a Leeds bid certainly seems to be on the cards.
