Brenden Aaronson’s contract latest: Here’s everything Leeds fans need to know

Brenden Aaronson has emerged as a key player for Leeds United this season.

Aaronson has notched four goals and three assists in 26 Premier League appearances for Daniel Farke‘s side as they look to stay in the Premier League.

He has seen a remarkable turnaround in his Elland Road career, after being written off for large parts of his time in Yorkshire.

However, his future at Leeds is not set in stone, and he could be set to walk away from the Whites in the near future.

When does Aaronson’s current deal with Leeds expire?

Aaronson signed a five-year contract when he joined the Peacocks from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022.

He is still on that original contract, which saw him link up with the LS11 side in a £24.7million deal, after a highly successful stint in Austria.

That contract is set to expire on 30 June 2027, if a new deal cannot be reached with the American midfielder.

Have Leeds held talks with Aaronson over new deal?

Leeds are understood to be close to offering a new contract to the 25-year-old after his stunning form this campaign.

A report from TEAMtalk on 13 February claimed that Aaronson was on a list of four players in line for fresh terms.

It stated that Adam Underwood is looking to secure an extension with the 56-cap United States international to resolve the situation.

What has Aaronson said about Leeds recently?

The American has not opened up on the possibility of a new deal, but he has admitted his admiration for those at the club.

In an interview with The Athletic in January, he said: “It’s crazy, the biggest thing is, I’m lucky, because I can’t say enough about the support system, the people around the club.”

He also thanked supporters for their backing, saying: “It meant the world to hear they’re backing me, I love this club, I love the fanbase.

“It’s amazing when you’re going to Derby away (in their recent FA Cup tie), and you have them louder than the Derby fans, and they’re sold out over there, it’s crazy.”

All signs suggest that he is happy to continue with the club that gave him a chance in English football.

What has Farke previously said about Aaronson?

Farke has previously defended Aaronson against criticism from the fanbase, while admitting that he understands the frustration.

Speaking in a post-match interview after the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in November, the Whites boss said: “I have to say Brenden is a player who polarises and can be annoying even for me.

“Sometimes he’s not clear enough and can be a bit hectic, but I have to say what we’re doing in criticising this young man, then we don’t have to do all these mental health awareness days.

“He represents so many skills we want to stand for as Leeds United. He works his socks off, gives everything, is relentless and leaves his heart on the pitch. It’s more than unfair at the moment.

Farke clearly rates him, so it is no surprise that he looks set to stick around at Thorp Arch, with a new contract on the cards.

It seems as though those in positions of power at the club respect his contributions, and it looks like he will be rewarded for that in the coming months.
