Brenden Aaronson to arrive in Berlin on Sunday to complete Leeds United loan exit

Brenden Aaronson is on the verge of leaving Leeds United to join Union Berlin on a season-long loan, according to BILD.

The German newspaper reported on their website that Aaronson, 24, will arrive in Köpenick, an area of Berlin where Union are based, on Sunday (9 July) to finalise his move to the Bundesliga club.

It is understood that Union’s manager Oliver Ruhnert is utilising the loan market to build a squad that’s ready to take on the Champions League next season.

Aaronson wore the number seven shirt at Leeds last season and BILD claims that number is available right now at Union Berlin.

Back for next year?

It feels like Leeds are allowing a lot of loan exits to see if they can get players off their wage bill for a season in the Championship before seeing if they can get back into the Premier League.

If Leeds sell Aaronson now on a permanent basis, he probably won’t be as valuable as he would be if the Whites were back in the Premier League in a year’s time because of how their financial position would look.

Of course, it’s a risky mover on a player who cost the club for £24.7million last year.

If they don’t go up this season and Aaronson has a poor season at Union Berlin, they could be lumbered with him again next year where they may have to find another loan or sell him permanently for less money than they could this summer.

Leeds’ financial position isn’t one that should cause any worries, however.

While the deal hasn’t yet been ratified by the EFL, 49ers Enterprises are set to become Leeds’ new owners, replacing Sampdoria-bound Andrea Radrizzani.

The Whites will want to make as much money as possible on their players but they are in a good position to be able to take gambles like they perhaps are on Aaronson.

In other Leeds United news, fans will be furious with this controversial Phil Hay transfer update.
