Brenden Aaronson medical with Leeds United underway with deal hours away from completion
Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson is currently undergoing a medical with Leeds United, according to LeedsLive.
The news website reported on their website on 26 May that a deal for the 21-year-old USA midfielder is on the verge of completion and could be announced within the coming hours.
The Athletic reported earlier this week (24 May) that the initial fee Leeds have agreed to pay for Aaronson is £25million.
Unless we get a Michael Cuisance or Daniel James level of breakdown in the deal to sign Aaronson, it looks as though this transfer will get wrapped up soon.
It makes a lot of sense too.
Aaronson will have just finished the Austrian season with Salzburg and is set to join up with the USA national team for their upcoming friendlies and North American Nations League games.
He may as well pop into Yorkshire on his way to the States, mightn’t he?
We’re sure that Aaronson will end up being a good signing.
He’s had a superb season with Salzburg, winning the Austrian Bundesliga with them, helping them reach the Champions League knock-out stages and then assisting goals in each leg of the last-16 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Aaronson’s always qualified for the World Cup with the USA – and he’s only 21.
As an attacking midfielder, he’ll slot into this Leeds side seamlessly.
It’s a shame Marcelo Bielsa didn’t sign the ex-Philadelphia Union ace in January because it could have been the difference between the Whites sacking the Argentine and sticking with him.
But we understand Aaronson’s reasons for not wanting to join us in January and we won’t hold that against him.
In other Leeds United news, this £20million-plus Leeds player is considering his options at Elland Road.
