Brenden Aaronson able to do Leeds United medical in USA, personal terms no issue

Brenden Aaronson will be able to do a remote medical in the USA if Leeds United manage to strike a deal for the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

Aaronson, 21, is currently with the USA national team with Leeds reportedly tabling two bids to sign him.

Neither have been accepted by Salzburg but Hay reports that the attacking midfielder wants to sign for Leeds and that agreeing personal will be no issue.

“He is a player that Leeds really, really want and I do think Aaronson will end up at Elland Road at some stage,” said Hay on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show podcast. “But it looks highly unlikely in this window.

“He’s over in the States at the moment with the USA national team, they’ve got some World Cup qualifiers.

“It doesn’t make it impossible that because you can do medicals remotely. I don’t think personal terms or anything like that would be an issue with at all.

“From what I understand, he’s really keen on the move but it’s never been his intention to bully his way out of Salzburg mid-season when they’ve got the Champions League to come and they’re top of the Austrian Bundesliga.

“It’s not looking likely that one, unless something dramatic goes on.”

So there’s still a chance?

Hay suggests that a deal for Aaronson this month will not happen.

However, it does sound as though if Leeds do manage to agree a fee with Salzburg before 31 January, the rest of it should be smooth sailing.

Aaronson has been the Whites’ top target this month and on the balance of odds, you’d have to admit that it’s going to be a shock if he turns up at Thorp Arch once his duty with the USA national team is done.

But Leeds really cannot afford to go through this month without signing any senior players – it will be a massive, massive risk.

Marcelo Bielsa’s squad has been decimated by injuries all season and they really need to add bodies before the deadline passes on Monday.

Our midfield was shy of quality and strength in depth before the season started – and probably has done for a couple of years – while the striker position is also a massive issue.

Leeds’ month has so far been a massive failure and only results on the pitch can prove fans right to be concerned over the lack of incomings.

In other Leeds United news, this Leeds player is a “dream signing” for a club in Europe with talks underway.
