Borussia Monchengladbach funds issue raised in transfer of Leeds United man Max Wober

Borussia Monchengladbach are struggling to raise the funds required to meet the asking price for Leeds United defender Max Wober, according to Rheinische Post.

can only raise a “high single-digit million” fee to bring Leeds United ace Max Wober to the club permanently,.

The German outlet reported on 26 June that the Gladbach, where Austria defender Wober spent the 2023/24 season loan, can only raise a “high single-digit million” fee for Wober, which falls short of the Whites’ valuation.

It adds that Leeds’ demands are “significantly higher” than that of what the Bundesliga side are willing to pay to acquire the 26-year-olds services.

Why Leeds United should lower their demands for Max Wober this summer

Much like a lot of Leeds’ loanees last season, Wober was brought in during the Whites’ relegation season from the Premier League.

Upon dropping to the Championship, the defender was one of many who found their way out of the club on a temporary basis due to clauses inserted into their contracts.

Although Wober would be a strong re-addition to Leeds’ defensive line, it is difficult to imagine a scenario whereby he and the club will reconcile and he features in the Championship next term.

If prior reports of the West Yorkshire outfit wanting £12.6million for the defender are to be believed [Bild, 17 June] there’s no reason why their figure can’t drop somewhat in order to sanction a sale.

Even with a fee of around £8-9m, it could fund their own ambitious attempt to bring Joe Rodon back to Elland Road on a permanent transfer [Graeme Smyth, 21 June].

Moreover, though, it would be another earner off the books permanently and help keep the balance sheets in good condition when it comes to Profit and Sustainability rules. So, maybe Leeds might want to consider taking a slightly lower price than first reported.
