Borussia Monchengladbach director responds to speculation around Leeds United loanee Max Wober
Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Nils Schmadtke has responded to speculation linking the Bundesliga club with a permanent move for Leeds United defender Max Wober – as shared by Bild.
The German news outlet wrote on Monday (9 October) that Wober, who is on loan from Leeds for the season, has impressed the Bundesliga outfit with his “warrior” mentality and strong leadership since joining the club.
Wober has been compared to Gladbach hero Martin Stranzl, who became a fan favourite playing as an uncompromising defender who was a “terror for every striker”, much like Wober is proving now.

Bild claimed that Monchengladbach must do everything they can to sign Wober permanently, and when asked about the possibility of a long-term deal, Schmadtke simply responded by saying: “Everything in its own time.”
This seems to hint that the move will be made, and while it might not be on the immediate horizon, the club will make their approach to Leeds before his current loan deal expires.
Leeds should let him go
With Wober succeeding in Germany, and Leeds beginning their campaign with an aim for promotion from the Championship, it doesn’t seem like there would be a place for Wober to return to Elland Road, even if his ability is of a higher level than other members of Daniel Farke’s squad.
While he would undoubtedly improve the side, able to play as a left-back or left-sided centre-back, the transition the club is continuing to go through in terms of the playing squad means very few of their loanees would be welcome back.

Sam Byram has impressed at this level since rejoining Leeds on a free transfer in the summer, while Pascal Struijk has stepped up and made the left side of defence his own with some impressive displays so far this season.
A deal is there to be made for Wober, and if Leeds can recuperate any significant portion of the £10.4million spent on him last January [Transfermarkt], then they will almost certainly look to take that.
In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke has detailed the mental pressure his players are under.
