Borussia Dortmund make £20m decision on Leeds United star Archie Gray

Leeds United star Archie Gray is unlikely to join German giants Borussia Dortmund after the club was put off by a £20million asking price, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (June 23, page 56) that the midfielder is still highly sought after with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham interested in his services.

During the 2023-24 campaign, the 18-year-old made 52 appearances for the Whites in all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.

Is £20million too much for Gray?

Even in today’s market, £20million for 18-year-old Gray seems steep, especially considering his modest return of one goal and two assists in 52 appearances for Leeds United last season.

While Gray is undoubtedly talented and attracting interest from top clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham, his current stats don’t justify such a hefty price tag.

Leeds United’s valuation might be influenced by Gray’s potential rather than his current output, but for clubs like Borussia Dortmund to be put off by the fee suggests caution.

Unless Gray shows improvement when it comes to scoring goals and providing key passes, £20 million appears inflated for a player yet to establish himself consistently at the highest level. Clubs considering this price must weigh Gray’s potential against the immediate impact and value they could get elsewhere in the transfer market.
